MTC is officially dubbed "ZAIN"

02 September, 2007

MTC has changed its name and will soon be called "Zain". Check out this link at GSM world and you can see the new name between brackets.

Today's newspapers showed parts of the new logo (It is the black-blue-green thing) on several pages as teaser ads. you can see the first page of the Gulf daily news here.
Scouring the net, the only logo I found was a bad image by a fellow blogger: "Kuwaitism". You can see it to the right.
MTC (or I should start calling them Zain now), claim that political and economical legislations in Kuwait became unwelcoming to businesses as of late, thus the move.
I think it is also due to the fact that MTC means "Mobile Telecommunications Company", and they are expanding to more than just mere "Mobile".
Will they forgo the "Vodafone" part is still to be seen.

How to pimp in Bahrain

16 March, 2007

This is a page from "alwaqt" newspaper's classified page.
For the non Arabic speaker, it says: "Are you looking for your other half? Then callr" abu-ghayeb on *mobile number*"
What the hell is this?
Knowing how newspapers work, I am sure that they did not bother to take the time to see if this fellow is a legitimate licenced match making business. The person, could be, for all I know, a pimp or a pervert.
The mobile number isn't assuring, and the "name" isn't a name at all. Abu ghayeb is a nickname that is called on single people or ones who have no children yet.
So, our news papers could be trafficking prostitution? or paving ways to sexual crimes?
Alwaqt isn't the only one behind this, I saw a similar ad in alwaseet, not sure if this ran in other papers as well.
someone should address this.

Israel has a bad image? you don't say!

09 December, 2006

A report on MENAFN says Israel has a very bad image.

"According to the Anholt Nation Brands Index report, Israel's international image
is in the pits — i.e., the world's perception of Israel is in keeping with its
unvarnished ugliness as an occupier and oppressor, as a military machine gone
berserk."

REALLY?? Israel has an image as an oppressor? Wow.. God, I mean I never saw that coming!

Anyway, here is the nice bit of news:

Israel is using FREE services from Saatchi & Saatchi to "enhance" the country's "brand".

Saatchi & Saatchi has a significant presence in the gulf and the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is owned by the french Publicis Groupe, which also is present in Bahrain. How much will they use this presence to "enhance" Israel's image is unknown.

The full MENAFN article can be found HERE.

The same story is also run on the Israeli website Israel Today.
