Winter is back again after pretending to be summer for a bit. I asked my dad (who, again, is a meteorologist or um... weather specialist person) about this. He said that winds during the hot winter period came from a south eastern direction. From UAE. And in the area between the UAE and Qatar, you can find very shallow sea, like 3 meters deep. This shallowness absorbs heat quickly and evaporates, forming hot & humid weather going our way.
As for the cold, usually we get winds that originate from Siberia, Russia. They travel across Eastern Europe, Iraq & Iran before they get to us, so it picks some heat along the way. Siberia itself could reach -40 degrees.
The odd thing about this winter is, that the Siberian winds are taking a shortcut! They are heading straight over Iran and Directly onto Bahrain. Hence the temp. drop. And if you think this is cold, just you wait.
Weather.com predicts that Tuesday night will have a low of 5 degrees, while Wednesday's and Thursday will be coldest as the minimum temperature would reach a meager 4 degrees only.
The coldest Bahrain ever reached was 2.6 sometime in the 50s. So this is going to be one of your coldest in a long time.

Rain in Bahrain: Today compared to 2006
19 November, 2007
Last November Bahrain became less of an island and more of a shallow place in the sea. We drowned in heavy rain, and I loved it!
I love the rain, it goes well with my dreach personality.
Anyhow, it is the 19th of November, the weather is nice, not so cold, and certainly no rain. What gives?
According to Mr. Abdulsamad Almuhandis, a senior meteorologist in the meteorology office in Bahrain (AKA: my dad), things are looking pretty calm and sweet. No rain so far.
Last year, by the 26th of November, we got 35-45 ml. of rain. Which is a lot if you compare it to the 6.2 average. But we don't have any rain yet.
In comes Arabic Astrology. On the 24th of November, the sign of Alzbana enters. It lasts 13 days, and usually comes loaded with heavy clouds ready to unload.
I believe my father's predictions completely, but being like him, I know he'd never admit to something unless he is scientifically sure by a good percentage.
In any case, buy new wipers, get a good coat, a decent umbrella, and if your roof needs fixing do it now. You have 5 days.
Mud storm: Aftermath
24 March, 2007

Broken branches

Blown down Satellite Dish (fell from the roof)
our neighbours too sufferd fom Broken Branches Syndrome

Bahrain's sudden storm
22 March, 2007
Its awfully windy all of a sudden. Ironic that it catches us by surprise since my father is a meteorologist. He hardly ever warns us for some reason.
Anyway, imagine the combination of rain and dust. Yes, its a MUD storm. I hear things toppling over. Will survey the damages tomorrow.

Today Bahrain drowned in dust. Visibility was really poor. Here is a picture of Alfateh mosque, wher I prayed the friday prayer today. Feels like Silent Hill in here.

Bahrain is not Freezing
09 January, 2007
NEXT WEEK WE ARE IN FOR A SEVERE FREEZING – AS PER THE MET DEPT GET READY FOR
IT
AS WARNING HAS BEEN SOUNDED
This is an 8 day forecast, the met office here usually issue 5 day forecasts,
due to the decrease in reliability long forecasts have.
My father exclaimed
that while we have Northerly winds now, Friday & Saturday will see Sothern
winds (aka: Koos) making it unlikely to go to freezing degrees.
They also
expect more rain, and temp around 19 max – 13 min.
Everyone can call the met
office at 17323073 to confirm
Also, by going to weather.com (the Weather
channel's website) we see that their predictions are the same as our met office.
